The nationally-ranked Spurs Dance Team is a pom squad that performs at all Hardin-Simmons University football and basketball games and is a vital part of HSU life. In addition to the performance pom squad, the team performs in various events and avenues, allowing them to showcase their varied types of dance talents; jazz, tap, hip hop, and contemporary. The Spurs perform at over 50 events and athletic games each year on campus. They also perform in HSU’s All-School SING, a campus-wide talent show.

After the ADTS award ceremony, the HSU Spurs posed with their trophy.

On March 25, 2023, the Spurs traveled to Denton, Texas, to compete in the American Dance/Drill Team (ADTS) Collegiate Nationals Competition. The team competed in Division III, placing third overall and second in pom.

This year, the team also competed in a virtual competition with Dance Team Union (DTU), placing second in the Division III pom category.

Coach Samantha Spieler shared, “Most people only see the entertainment side of the Spurs, but the team works extremely hard on a high-energy pom routine where they can show off their technique and skill.” Spieler added, “It takes many months to tweak and perfect a competition routine. Their hard work showed on the competition floor. They set goals, at the beginning of the competition season, as a team and crushed every one of them. I couldn’t be more proud of the work that they put in this year.”
