Summer Internship Spotlight: MacKenzie Corum

August 1, 2023 Charis Ochu

Classes may be out for summer vacation, but that doesn’t mean Hardin-Simmons students aren’t hard at work, sharpening their skills in their respective job fields and courses of study. This summer, we’ll feature students who are interning, volunteering, or working around the world. If there is a student you think we should feature, reach out to marketing@hsutx.edu!

Name: MacKenzie Corum

Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas

Major: BFA Theatre Education

Summer Plans: This summer, MacKenzie served as an intern at Stage West Theatre, which is in Fort Worth, Texas. Her roles included working as an Assistant Director and Camp Director for children’s theatre camps.

How has HSU played a role in getting you here: Spending two years at HSU has made me feel more prepared to apply for internships and to build my experience before I graduate. My time at HSU has given me the confidence to pursue jobs and gain more experience.

Most impactful mentors at HSU: Dr. Victoria Spangler and Dr. Stace Gaddy always push me to be the best I can be. Dr. Spangler encourages me to apply for internships and gain more theatre experience. When I informed her of my internship, she was thrilled and congratulated me. Dr. Gaddy always places emphasis on the significance of being a Christian scholar in the theatre world.

What made you choose this internship opportunity, and how will it prepare you for the future: When I came home for the summer, I wanted to engage with the theatres in the DFW area. My mother found this internship and suggested it to me. Being a part of this internship has made me realize what age group I would like to teach, which is middle school and high school.
