Dr. Christian MacIntyre ’21, the first orthopaedic resident to graduate from HHWTRCOR

Dr. Christian MacIntyre, PT, DPT ’21 recently completed the Hendrick Health and West Texas Rehabilitation Center Orthopaedic Residency Program (HHWTRCOR). The 12-month Orthopaedic Residency program was created as a collaboration between three independent organizations, including Hendrick Health, West Texas Rehabilitation Center, and Hardin-Simmons University Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.
The common goal of HHWTRCOR is to provide a rigorous curriculum that develops highly-skilled, compassionate orthopaedic physical therapists who provide excellent orthopaedic care grounded in evidence-supported practice and service to the community. It is the only orthopaedic residency program in the entire West Texas region. The uniqueness of this residency is that the resident is able to assist with teaching 8 hours/ week at HSU while working 32 hours in the clinics. All facilities involved have mentoring faculty with a vast array of advanced PT credentials and a love for teaching and sharing advanced PT skills. The Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE or Board) granted initial accreditation (January 2023) for Hendrick Health and West Texas Rehabilitation Center Orthopaedic Residency for a period of 5 years through Jan. 2028
Dr. MacIntyre was the first orthopaedic resident to graduate from the accredited program. He also has been successful in passing his certification exam of the American Physical Therapy Association Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS). He states, “This program and the various opportunities afforded to me have laid the foundation for my clinical and professional growth. I have developed clinical reasoning, mental agility, and metacognition that will continue to grow with my career due to this foundation. Most importantly, this program has developed my humility as a clinician.”
Dr. MacIntyre will be traveling with the DPT Mission team to Kenya in July and serve as a clinical mentor to the HSU DPT students.
Congratulations to Dr. Christian MacIntyre, PT, DPT, OCS!
