Hardin-Simmons University brings Scottish theatre to Abilene with Straight Outta Scotland!
Hardin-Simmons University’s theatre department proudly presents Straight Outta Scotland! The event goes through a series of five plays brought from the theatre students’ experiences in Scotland’s Theatre Without Walls, both student-acted and student-directed.
This past August, fifteen HSU Theatre students spent two weeks in Edinburgh at The Fringe, one of the greatest celebrations of art and culture. Blown away by the theatre they saw, they decided to bring Straight Outta Scotland, a quintet of the curious, the daring, the new, the outrageous…a mini-Fringe!
All the plays performed will be contemporary plays, and each promises to be weird and wild. The shows include Back Seat, a play where two strangers riding a taxi discover how suspiciously similar their lives are, and Di(n)e, a story where a person’s dead family members have risen from the dead to deliver…food?
The plays will be performed from September 19th to September 21st at the Down Centre Stage Lab Theatre.
Each play will last less than an hour, and the times are as follows:
6:00 p.m. – Back Seat
7:00 p.m. – Meat Boy
8:00 p.m. – Di(n)e
9:00 p.m. – Big Scary Cat
10:00 p.m. – Beach Babe
The shows are free for the HSU community, and each show is first-come, first-serve. Come see one, see two, or all!
