HSU Participates in April Career Fairs

(ABILENE, Texas)–Over the next two weeks, Hardin-Simmons will participate in three career fairs. These events provide students with an opportunity to meet possible employers and learn about local organizations. On April 4, HSU took part in the Tri-University Teacher Fair at Abilene Christian University. On April 9, HSU will partake in another collaborative fair, where students from six universities and colleges can meet potential employers in the nonprofit industry and the social and public service field. This fair is in ACU’s Hunter Welcome Center at 1949 ACU Drive and will begin at 10 a.m. On April 10, HSU’s criminal justice program will host a career fair in the Johnson Building Multipurpose Room, which will start at noon.
Alyssa Rasco, director of career services at HSU, says that “if a student is about to graduate, they will be able to talk to employers who are getting ready to hire them. They can hand in their resume, talk to the company. It will give them face to face interaction.”
She also says that “students in any other year other than seniors can be asking about possible internship opportunities, asking about the field or about careers in that organization, and can work on networking to get a feel for who is out there in the workforce… Many of these organizations also hire part-time.”
These fairs are open to all HSU students, regardless of major or classification. Rasco recommends that attendees wear professional dress and bring copies of their resumes. These career fairs allow for HSU’s students to interact, face to face, with potential employers and network connections from around the Abilene area.
