HSU Worship Students Take on Nashville During Spring Break

Spring break just came to an end! While many students took time to rest and visit loved ones, worship majors at Hardin-Simmons University embarked on a weeklong trip to Nashville, Tenn. The goal of this trip was to learn more about the music industry and Christian worship in a fun way.

On the first day of the trip, students attended The Belonging Co., a renowned Nashville church known for its worship leaders, including Cody Carnes and Kari Jobe. These artists shared their perspectives on worship, inspiring students with their experiences.

Hailey Erlund, a senior double-majoring in marketing and accounting with a minor in worship leadership, reflected, “It was so cool to see the ideas we learn in worship leadership classes at HSU be implemented in a real church setting.”

The second day of the trip involved a trip to Grand Ole Opry, a well-known live country radio broadcast. Students enjoyed performances from various artists and got a behind-the scenes look at the industry.

“It was amazing to see different artists perform and command the stage,” Hailey shared.

Another highlight was a session with Chris Clayton, a songwriter and producer, in his studio. He provided insights into songwriting, life tips and advice from an artist and worship leader standpoint.

For Hailey, this trip reminded her that even when life’s path seems uncertain, trusting God’s plan is essential.

“Chris Clayton was a marketing major in undergrad, and it reminded me to stay open to where my skills can have the biggest impact,” she said.

Hailey is very thankful to HSU for providing the opportunity for this experience. Due to the interpersonal relationships built between the students and their professors, doors are opened to new and exciting experiences.

“I am grateful for the experiences and classes even though I am a minor because I could not have gotten these experiences at my other initial college choices,” she added.

This trip not only provided students with a deepened knowledge of worship leadership but also provided them with unforgettable experiences and memories.
