International Student Spotlight: Belinda Umuliza
Originally from Kigali in Rwanda, Belinda Umuliza arrived in the United States in 2018 to complete her high school education. After this, she made the decision to attend college at Hardin-Simmons University. She is currently working towards a double major degree in economics and management with plans to graduate this spring. She intends to go to graduate school afterward.
During her four years at HSU, Belinda has remained very involved with the International Student’s Fellowship (ISF) at Hardin-Simmons University. She served as the media officer for ISF during her junior year and vice president her senior year. In a recent interview, she shared, “I joined ISF to find people with similar experiences to mine. I have gained friends and leadership skills and learned how to respond when life gets tough.” She currently serves as a student worker for the Social Work Department and Global Engagement.
One of her favorite events organized by ISF is International Week. “It provides an opportunity to show where I am from, my experience as an international student, and all that I can bring to the table,” she explained.
In her free time, she loves swimming, reading, listening to music, and painting.
Her advice to all students on campus is “know that everything is going to work out and take each step at a time.”
