Proven, Hardin-Simmons University’s Black Student Union, hosts various events throughout the year to share African American culture with the campus and community. The club uses these events to promote fellowship and collaboration and provide conversation space. To celebrate Black History Month, Proven has scheduled a calendar of events to highlight Black voices and stories.

Zorian Burley serves as President of Proven. Zorian will graduate this May with a bachelor’s in English and has been a member of Proven since his junior year. Zorian’s presidential responsibilities include supervising his fellow officers, organizing meetings for the club, and acting as a bridge between Student Life and the club.

Zorian admires Proven for being an organization that allows African American students to be more involved on campus and supports anyone who needs help. “Proven is a place where I can be 100% myself,” Zorian shared. “Proven is family.”

Zorian looks forward to Proven events during Black History Month, such as Black History Family Feud, which took place on February 1; Fit-It Friday, a student-run fashion event; and the Black is Everything celebration on February 29 with prizes and raffles. Black is Everything is the event Zorian is most excited about. “It will be a great night full of fun and community.”
