For nearly a century, the Hardin-Simmons University Six White Horses team has represented the University with their distinct western image and commitment to serving the Abilene Community. The Six White Horses team maintains a full season schedule by performing at hundreds of rodeos, parades, and other public functions each year. While the team stays productive during the school year, their schedule becomes the busiest during the summer months.

The Six White Horses team attends numerous rodeos and parades in the Abilene and surrounding areas. They also visit and perform at schools, nursing homes, and birthday parties when available. These opportunities allow the team’s riders to gain a new perspective by assisting and giving rides to young children and others who usually cannot ride horses.

Debbie Jones, Director of the Six White Horses Program since 1998, makes sure that her team also uses these events to inform their audience on the horses they are riding and the history of the six flags they carry.

“I think it’s important that we use our time at these events to educate people on our horses and the state’s history in a fun environment,” Jones said.

Jones also believes that it is important for the program to perform year-round to allow more people to learn about Hardin-Simmons and its traditions.

“The Six White Horses have been around since the 1920s, so a lot of people know about them. We want just as many people to know about the University itself too,” Jones said.
