HSU Housing Information

As partners enacting the mission of Hardin-Simmons University, Residence Life is dedicated to the learning experience of students through on-campus living. We cultivate a Christ-centered, diverse, and transformative living-learning environment, developing whole persons who are growing in their capacity to be responsible participants in their communities, faithful citizens of God’s Kingdom, and agents of change in the world. We accomplish this through a vibrant residential program where we intentionally connect our students to God and each other.

Laundry: There are laundry facilities conveniently located in each residence hall on campus and the University Place Apartments. All machines are operated using Cowboy Cash.

Wi-Fi: Students are encouraged to sign up for a FREE account with MyResNet. Once you have completed the signup process, you will be able to connect up to 4 devices to this high-speed network. This network covers every residence hall, the Moody Center, and the Rupert N. Richardson Library. If students wish to connect more than 4 devices, there are upgrades available. If you have any issues connecting, please contact 1-855-643-2150.

HSU Post Office: All campus residents are provided with a campus HSU Box. The HSU Post Office (located in the Moody Center) is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday, providing many US Postal Service needs. The HSU Post Office handles the receipt of all packages shipped to students on campus. Those packages are held for students and can be picked up during their open hours.

HSU Police: The Hardin-Simmons University Police Department boasts seven full-time TCLEOSE certified peace officers. In addition to providing 24-hour campus security, the HSUPD provides several other key services to the University and surrounding community. You can pick up your HSU parking ticket and register valuables (bicycles, gaming consoles, laptops, etc.) in their headquarters in the Moody Center basement B03.

Fitness Center – The HSU Fitness Center provides a quality work-out experience to all HSU students, faculty, and staff without any additional charges! The Fitness Center provides multiple options for cardio, resistance, and strength training. Utilize our free weights, ellipticals, treadmills, bicycles, weight machines, and other amenities to enhance your workout.

HSU Bookstore: Our campus bookstore is a one-stop-shop for far more than just textbooks. Whether you need to pick up a Scantron and pencil on your way to a mid-term test, or want to grab some HSU gear to sport around campus, you can find it the bookstore located in Moody Center next to the Post Office.

POD (Provisions on Demand): The “POD” is a great place to grab a meal on-the-go! Conveniently located in the middle of Moody Center, you can find quick meals or a light snack to tide you over in between classes. Cowboy Cash is also accepted here.

Cable Service: Cable service is offered in each Residence Hall Commons. These common areas have been equipped with the latest technology in order to provide a premium entertainment and engaging experience. Come enjoy the space and hang out with your friends!

Furniture: Every room in the Residence Halls and UP Apartments comes completely furnished. All university items in the room (mattress, desk chair, etc.) must stay in the room throughout the year. They can’t be taken home or stored elsewhere in the building.

Housekeeping: All community (hall) bathrooms in Ferguson and Behrens Halls are cleaned by HSU housekeeping staff on a regular basis. Students are responsible for keeping their own rooms and suite bathrooms clean. Monthly room checks are scheduled to assure the continued health and safety in each Residence Hall room.

Room Maintenance: This form allows HSU Campus Residents to submit routine maintenance workorders. If you need to report a maintenance emergency (i.e. pipe burst, flood, unsafe conditions, etc.) please contact the HSU Police @ 325-670-1911, they will address emergencies 24/7.

Computer Labs: If you do not have a personal computer, there are several available computer labs on campus. Those labs are located on the 2nd floor of Moody Center, the Johnson Building 1st floor, and the Richardson Library.

Students who live on campus at HSU have higher grades, faster graduation rates, and are more connected to other students and faculty through the campus experience. As a residential campus, HSU wants all students to thrive both in and out of the classroom all four years. We firmly believe that the relationships built in a vibrant community led by Residence Life Staff will empower students to make connections between faith, living, and learning within a diverse community. With this philosophy, HSU policy is that all undergraduate students taking more than six semester hours are required to live on campus.

In order to be eligible to live in on-campus housing you must be a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student. Full-time or part-time students must be enrolled in at least 6 units of undergraduate/graduate classes per term.

Housing Types

• Traditional Undergraduate Housing is located in Residence Halls, Wolf Apartments, and University Place Apartments.
• Graduate Housing is located in the University-Owned Houses, Wolf Apartments, and University Place Apartments.
• Family Housing is located in the University-Owned Houses.

University policy states that all single full-time traditional undergraduate students must live on-campus unless they meet and can provide documentation for the following through the Housing Exception Application:

1. Student is legally married to a person of the opposite sex and can submit a marriage certificate.
2. Student is an Abilene area resident living with their parent(s) when applying to HSU and wishes to continue living in their parent(s) home. (Please note: The Abilene area is considered within a 25-minute commute to the HSU campus via Google Maps.)
3. Student is 21 years old by August 1 for the fall semester or by January 1 for students admitted for the spring semester.
4. If Student is under 21, they must have completed 4 semesters of university residency.

University policy states that all residents living in Residence Halls must have a meal plan. See cost information HERE For additional questions about meal plans please contact the HSU Business Office at 325-670-1001.

Residents can find the most up-to-date calendar information on our University Events Calendar. Athletes and student leaders may arrive earlier than new students and returning students. Athletes should check with the Athletic Department for exact dates and times, while student leaders are encouraged to check with their supervisors.

All University Housing Options remain open over most holiday breaks with the exception of Residence Halls over the extended Christmas Holidays. Residence Hall Residents may apply through a Christmas Housing process each Fall to be approved to remain in housing for some or all of the Holiday period.

In order to whip together your favorite home-cooked meal, full kitchen facilities (shared stove, oven, refrigerator, and microwave) are provided in each residence hall. Residents are responsible for their own kitchen supplies.
